Ramadan Bunting Decorations - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Ramadan Bunting Decorations tutorial Muslim Islamic Craft
Day 7 - Ramadan Bunting Decorations

We have just finished making the Bunting for this year - I have written an easy tutorial and also provided a free download of the templates that we used to make ours. We did this last year but this time we used some pastel colours for a change.

Requirements:
  • Coloured Card
  • Paper to use for the letters.
  • Hole Punch to make holes (or use something else for holes)
  • Crayons or other colouring stationery.
  • String (we used wool!)
  • Glue/Prit-stick

Instructions:
Step 1) Using the card, cut out some triangles (you can use the free template if you wish).
Step 2) Make sure you puncture 2 holes into the tops of the triangles so that you can insert the string afterwards.
Step 3) Draw/write out the letters for the bunting (or print out the ones on the free template)
Step 4) Colour in the Letters and then cut them out once finished.
Step 5) Place the triangles in a nice coloured pattern if using different coloured cards so that it looks neat.
Step 6) Glue the Letters onto the triangles - avoiding the holes.
Step 7) Thread the string through all the triangles and then hang up and display!

Here is the link to the free download for the Bunting Templates: Ramadan Bunting.pdf

Helpful Hints:
If you want to be more creative you could follow this design using Scrap Fabric and cut out the triangles and letters using different fabrics. You could still use glue if you don't want to sew or if you like sewing you could sew the letters on and make it more secure.

Above is another photo of a Ramadan Bunting we have in the house. This was made completely by my 11 year old daughter using Coloured paper cut into hearts and with the letters 'RAMADAN' handwritten on. She has put this above her bed.

Islamic Doorknob Hangers - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Islamic Doorknob Hangers Muslim Ramadan Crafts
Day 6 - Islamic Doorknob Hangers

I designed these particular Doorknob Hangers for my children to use specifically during Ramadan but they could be used for anytime! My children decided on the black and white printed designs and hand coloured them in themselves. I have some free download links at the bottom of the post of the same design if you wish to print them out or you could get your children to make their own designs! I also designed some already pre-coloured and ready to use!

If your children are joining in with Ramadan and waking up for Suhoor these are great little reminders for them when they go to bed!

Requirements:
  • Card
  • Colouring implements (Paint/crayons etc.)
  • Optional (Laminator)

Instructions:
Print off your Template (either blank or black and white version) Preferably using card or attach to card later.
Write out and design your template or colour in the ready made one.
Cut the hanger out carefully.
Optional: You could laminate these to make them more sturdy.

Helpful Hints:
If you think these are going to tear easy then you could place them onto some sturdy cardboard or as mentioned earlier laminate them if you have a laminator.  If you want to print off some ready made ones then there are some links below where you can download for free the templates that I designed.

Ramadan Countdown Crafts - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Ramadan Countdown Crafts Muslim
Day 5 - Ramadan Countdown Crafts

Today's Post is 2 crafts that could be used to countdown Ramadan. The main photograph is simply a plate decorated with some painted pegs that the children can remove daily to countdown. The second craft is a traditional Paper Chain where you remove one chain each day of Ramadan.

Ramadan Countdown Crafts Paper Chain Muslim

Both of these crafts are fairly easy to do yourself at home. Below are some collage photographs of separate steps when these were being made by my children.

Ramadan Countdown Crafts Muslim

Instructions:
Gather your supplies: Pegs, Plate (either plastic or a painted cardboard one!)
Paint the pegs and allow to dry. Once dry write numbers 1 to 30 on them.
Clip the pegs all around the plate.
Print off or draw a sign to place in the middle of the plate (Ours says 'Ramadan Mubarak')
Each day remove one peg until the end of Ramadan.

Instructions:
Gather supplies: Different coloured card or paper, Pens to decorate, glue or stapler, blu-tac to stick to wall.
Cut the coloured card/paper into strips making sure you have 30 (one for each day).
In the centre of each strip write the numbers 1 to 30.
Use each strip to make a chain attaching in order. Attach each chain either using glue or a staple.
Once all chains are attached you can hang this up and each day of Ramadan a child can remove one chain until the end of Ramadan.

Helpful Hints:
I used a large plastic plate, but this can easily be made from some cardboard cut into a plate shape and decorated either by paint or sticking some coloured paper over it. If it is made of cardboard it might be easier to hang up. My plastic one is staying on the table! I numbered each peg and each chain piece but you don't have to do this, you could just leave them blank or decorate them in some kind of design.

99 Names of Allah Tree - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

99 names of allah tree muslim ramadan crafts
Day 4 - 99 Names of Allah Tree

This is a great craft for the children to do and can help them with learning and reciting the 99 names. This particular Craft had a lot of computer designing to it - but you can alternatively do all of this by hand too. If you do want to do it similar to what we did I have put some links to PDF Files that I made to design this Tree that you can download for free - you will find these links at the bottom of the post. This is displayed on my daughters' bedroom wall for them to learn as they wish.
I now have the names available to download translated into Arabic! A lovely sister volunteered to do this for me and now I can give you this option.

Requirements:
Paper/Card - preferably Green (or you could colour the leaves yourself)
Pens/pencils - if colouring yourself
Large piece of paper - (could use wallpaper) if you are affixing the leaves onto a backing sheet.
Paper/Card - Brown for the trunk or again you could colour in this yourself.
Blu-tac - to fix the leaves and trunk onto the wall or the backing paper onto the wall.
Glue - if you are attaching the pieces to the backing paper.

99 names of allah tree muslim ramadan crafts

Instructions:

  • Either download the printed leaves/printed leaves with names or draw and write out each leaf yourself. I just used an online site to copy the 99 names from. We used English but a lovely sister volunteered to translate these into Arabic and place them into my design, so I now have this link for you. She wishes to remain anonymous - but I am so thankful to her.
  • If you want to put the tree onto a backing sheet start organising where you are going to put each leaf so that it makes the shape of a tree.
  • Once you have a rough idea you can start gluing the leaves onto the sheet.
  • If you are applying the leaves directly to the wall as we did then you need to attach a small piece of blu-tac to the back of each one and start sticking them onto the wall until you get the shape you want. (you may need to move them a couple of times until you are happy with the shape of the tree!
  • Once you have the leaves in place you can then move onto the trunk of the tree.
  • Try to make the trunk size in comparison to the size of the top of the tree so it doesn't look too out proportion. We used brown card for the trunk but you could just use plain paper or card and colour the trunk in yourself. Then affix it to the backing paper or the wall.
Helpful Hints:
I used Blu-tac but there are many other things you could use that may be easier for sticking paper on walls. If using a backing sheet then maybe prit-stik would work. I worked from the bottom of the tree to make a semi circle using half of the names and then used the rest to finish the circle - there may be better methods than that! As mentioned I used the printed system but handwriting them would be just as good and more unique!

Here are the downloads links to the PDF Files I designed if you want to use them:

Here is an online list of names: http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/99_Names_of_God

Below are snippets of what the PDF Files Will Look Like.

Paper Mache Kaaba - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 3 - Paper Mache Kaaba

My 11 year old daughter made this Kaaba using a square square box, some gold tape and paper mache! This is a really great craft that can be made in several different types of way, not just paper mache.

Requirements:
  • Square box (rectangle or a cut down shaped one will do!)
  • Black Paint (or black paper to cover)
  • Gold Tape (or gold paint)
  • Newspaper and Paper Mache Paste (I used flour and water for paste)
  • Glue if needed

Instructions:

Prepare Paper Mache Paste and cut out strips of newspaper.
Cover the box in the paper mache and then allow to dry.
Using Black Paint cover all the visible sides in black paint and allow to dry.
Using Gold Tape, place strips around the Kaaba for decoration and a small strip for the door. Alternatively you could use Gold Paint.

Helpful Hints:
Using Paper mache means waiting for this to dry so if it is possible you could paint the box directly. There are many online recipes for paper mache or use wallpaper paste. You could also use black paper to cover the sides of the box and glue securely. If you don't have a box you could just cut a large box down to the size you require.

Ramadan Lolly Tree - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

DAY 2 - Ramadan Lolly Tree

Today's Post is a Ramadan Countdown Lolly Tree. The children will love this idea! They can have one lollipop each day of Ramadan. Once the tree is empty they will know Ramadan has ended and it is time to celebrate Eid!  I decorated this tree in green first as in a real tree but it after choosing some white chunky wool I think white looked better - you can choose any colour you wish! I have saw similar lolly tree gifts in all kinds of colours which looked brilliant! If you choose white, then you wouldn't have to bother painting the white cone shape! These types of trees are normally available at a lot of craft/birthday stores as these are often used at children's birthday parties and made to order but can be pricey to buy ready made up!

Requirements:

  • Cone shape - I used a polystyrene one bought at most craft shops (see pic) - Or make your own card one - see at bottom of post.
  • Paint
  • Marabou Boa (Furry fabric) or Thick Fancy Chunky Wool - bought at most craft shops or a friends wool stash!
  • Printed/or written Label
  • Glue/Stapler
  • Sharp metal object for piercing holes into the cone.( I used a barbecue skewer!)
Ramadan Lolly Tree 30 days of Ramadan Crafts Tutorial

Instructions:

1) Paint the Cone shape your chosen colour and allow to dry (it took ours a day - but maybe because of the type of paint we used!)
2) Wrap the boa/wool around the cone shape and glue the ends to the cone.
3)  Use either a thin pencil or something similar to pierce 30 holes into the cone. I made the holes in a downward position.
4) Place the lollies into the holes - making sure you have 30.
5) (Optional)  Either hand design or print out a design onto card explaining what the tree is and how to use it, and attach it to the bottom with either glue or stapler.

Your tree is now ready to be eaten!

Helpful Hints:
For some other ideas on how to decorate the cone - please see the following link (PS: It is titled for Christmas Tree Cones - but it is still relevant!): http://www.alililyblog.com/tag/tissue-paper-crafts/page/2
You could make a cone shape from card/cardboard too! I made one using non other than a Pizza Box! here are some pictures for you below: Here is a separate tutorial on how to make them: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-a-Funnel-or-Cone-from-Paper

Ramadan Calendar - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Ramadan Calendar 30 days of Ramadan Crafts Tutorial
Day 1 - Ramadan Calendar Tutorial

Today's Ramadan Craft is a 'Ramadan Calendar' made by my 11 year old daughter. Made from felt pieces and a pizza box!

Requirements:
  • Cardboard (I used a pizza box!)
  • Felt Pieces
  • Paint/brushes
  • Glue
  • Items to fit inside pockets (little notes or sweets!)
  • String or Ribbon - to use for hanging up.

Ramadan Calendar 30 days of Ramadan Crafts Tutorial

Instructions:

Step 1) Find a large piece of card (We used part of a pizza box as it had some handy holes in to help hang the calendar!) Decorate the card if needed - My daughter decided to paint the card purple and red as she likes these colours.
Step 2) Cut out 30 identical square/rectangle pieces to be used for the pockets.
Step 3) Arrange the squares on the table to make sure you have the right size measurements to fit onto the card. (I did this and realised my squares wouldn't fit - so had to cut them a bit smaller!)
Step 4) Using glue - place glue down 3 sides of the felt pocket (Leaving the top part to use an opening)
Step 5) Using different coloured felt, cut out numbers 1-30 to a size that will fit snuggly in the square shape that you cut out for the pockets. My daughter chose Green and Red .
Step 6) Using glue - place glue down 3 sides of the felt pocket (Leaving the top part to use as an opening) making sure you have a gap in the middle to store something!
Step 7) Place the pockets one by one onto your calendar. (I started form the bottom and worked my way up)
Step 8) Once you have all the pockets attached - you can decorate the rest of the card. My daughter wrote a Title 'Ramadan Calendar' at the top and some moon and star shapes. She used a silver glittery glue for this.
Step 9) Place some string/ribbon to the top and hang up in the house. (Pierce some holes in the top if needed to help attach your string.)
Step 10) Place a sweet or a little note inside each pocket.

HANDY HINTS: You don't have to use felt - you could use card to make the pockets and numbers. If using card you could use coloured pens to write the numbers onto each pocket.  Leave plenty time for the glue to work on the pockets before you place anything inside!  Pocket Surprises - these could be small sweets/chews/chocolates or small little handwritten notes with either small tasks for the children like learning a dua, or receiving a treat like a trip to the park that week, just let your imagination go wild!
