Eid Gifts Ideas - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 30 - Eid Gift Ideas

Every year our family like to make Eid gifts for our friends and family. I have posted a few photographs on this post of gifts we have given in previous years to give you some inspiration for gifts you would like to give. You could also use some of the previous posts ideas for gifts, for example bookmarks, key rings etc.

The 2 photographs below show the plates of cakes that I have previously given to my friends for Eid.
I place a mixture of cakes/cookies onto a plate and cover them in cling film and tie a piece of ribbon around. I then add a small sticker saying 'Eid Mubarak' on it. You could bake some homemade cakes to give as gifts or you could buy some different store bought ones and present them nicely on a plate.

A few years ago my eldest daughter used to really like doing the Ironed Plastic Beads - here is one piece of artwork she made for Eid for her friend:

The photograph below is an art canvas my eldest daughter made for a family friend last year. She still has it hanging up in her house! You can buy blank canvases quite cheaply if you shop around.

Below is a collage of photographs showing some Eid Baskets that I have previously put together for children - these don't need to be too expensive and you could do this without buying expensive baskets, just make your own from a decorated cardboard box! I actually collect baskets during the year from charity / thrift shops, car boot sales etc. at really cheap prices to use for giving gifts!

The photograph below gives an example of a gift you can give to another Muslima for Eid. This is a gift I actually gave to a friend of mine. I found the lovely box in a charity / thrift store and just knew I could make use of it! I bought some toiletries and after adding coloured tissue paper in the bottom - this turned into a lovely gift hamper!

My eldest daughter made some prayer beads for her friends for Eid this year. She bought some beads and jewellery making parts online and made them all unique using different patterns.

I hope some of these photographs have given you some inspiration as to what gifts you can give at Eid time. Even just a hand made card can be an ideal gift, people love it when someone has spent time designing something personal. As mentioned at the beginning - don't forget some of the crafts I have previously posted about could also be used as gifts for Eid!.

Scarf Surprises - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 29 - Scarf Surprises

My 11 year old daughter made these items as gifts to give at Eid. Using one scarf she was able to make 2 large tote bags and 2 headbands!  I have shown some photos to give an idea of how she did this! I have also included a photograph which I was kindly allowed to share by my friend which shows young children making prayer garments by just hand-sewing from some dupattas/shawls.

Requirements for Tote Bag:
  • One Large Scarf
  • Sewing Machine and threads/ or hand sew!

Instructions:

1) Cut two long strips at either side of the long part of the scarf (these are to be the straps)
2) Fold in half the remainder of the scarf and cut in half.
3) Make some hems at either side of the rectangle piece of scarf.
4) Fold the bag in half (pattern side touching.) Sew along the two sides of the bag.
5) Fold in half (length ways pattern side touching) one of the long strips. Sew a hem along the long side, then turn the long strip inside out to be the correct way.
6) Measure the correct length for the strap and cut to size.
7) Attach the strap to the inside hem of the tote bag and make sure it is secure.
Optional - You could add a liner to the bag if you are competent enough.

The photograph above shows another great Upcycling Project - this photograph has been shared by my friend Andini Gallivan showing the ISF Girls Group who after just their first hand sewing lesson made prayer garments from dupattas/shawls and added diamond embellishment to mimic the Moroccan kaftan. They basically folded the scarf in half, cut a small hole on the top where the neck will be inserted. Then they drew a hemline and hand stitched along the edges, and then added some sticky diamonds. So simple but brilliant!'

Here is another great sewing idea. If you haven't already seen my post about making hijabs from clothes, below is the photograph and here is my tutorial:

Ramadan Certificates - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 28 - Ramadan Certificates
What better way to end the blessed month of Ramadan with the children than to give them their very own certificate for taking part! I have designed 4 different certificates. I have designed 2 certificates that are black and white and can be coloured in by the children and another 2 certificates that are designed in full colour ready to just present to them (once you have written on their name!). You could even get these laminated or framed.

Here is the First Free Download of the coloured design - that just needs the child's name entered: certificatecoloura.pdf

Ramadan T-Shirt Designing - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Ramadan T-shirt designing crafts Islam Muslim
Day 27 - Ramadan T-Shirt Designing

My children love T-Shirt Designing - they have done this a few times in the past and we thought why not make one to celebrate their Fasting in Ramadan this year! My youngest has been wearing this long sleeved T-Shirt that she hand designed all by herself when she has been doing her half day fasting attempts. My eldest has been completing the full day fast this year!

Requirements:
  • Plain T-Shirt (we used long sleeved ones!)
  • Fabric Pens/Sharpie Pens
  • Iron
  • Card or something to place inside of T-shirt to stop colour going through to the back part of the T-Shirt.

My Girls designed their own T-Shirts themselves.

Instructions:

Step 1) Find a Plain T-shirt - always best to wash it first if it is new!
Step 2) Place some card or something similar inside the shirt - so that the pen colour will not transfer through to the other side of the T-shirt. Do this for the arms if you are designing on the arms!
Step 3) Using the pens (we used both Fabric pens and Sharpie Pens) Start writing/drawing your design onto the T-shirt. You could try to draw a design first on paper.
Step 4) Once you have your completed design - Apply heat by ironing over the design to seal the pen ink.
Step 5) You can now wear your unique T-Shirt!

Helpful Hints:
You could design other clothes but remember cotton is the best for Fabric colouring.

Helpful Hints: Do not place them in to much heat - I dried some in the sunshine and they became brittle! Once dry you can try and trim them with sharp scissors to make them a bit neater!

Mosque Gift Bag Template - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 25 - Mosque Gift Bag Template
I have personally designed a Gift Bag which is in the shape of a mosque. I have made available 2 designs, one which is just the shape of a mosque and the other one has the words 'Eid Mubarak' written on one side so this could be used specifically to use as a gift for Eid. I designed these with an extra 2 flaps at the top, so that you can secure a little of what you put inside the box as a gift!
Requirements:
Printout of the template onto card
Pens/Crayons, Paint
Hole Puncher
Ribbon to secure the box closed.

Instructions:
Print of the template onto card stock from the links above.
Colour in the template with the colours of your choice.
Fold the card along the lines that are highlighted on the template.
Secure the edges together with either glue or double sided tape.
Allow to dry if using glue.
Using a Hole Puncher or something similar make 2 holes at the top where the holes are shown on the design.
Fill your box with some little goodies/gift.
Insert some ribbon into the holes and make sure the box is closed securely.

Helpful Hints: You could leave the gap (ie not cut it) alongside the bottom of the gift bag and fold them up to make the bottom a bit more secure. You could print this out onto coloured card to give it more detail.

Arabic Calligraphy Artwork - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 24 - Arabic Calligraphy Artwork

We have all been busy in our house doing some great designs with Arabic Calligraphy. My 2 daughters have been doing some freehand calligraphy paintings which they then framed. I designed some calligraphy artwork using the computer. I am not an Arabic speaker, but I have been told that this particular calligraphy means Peace in Arabic. You can choose to design any Arabic word/s that you prefer.

Requirements for Painting.

  • Paper/card
  • Paint/paintbrushes
  • Photograph Frame

Instructions:

Step 1) Find an Arabic word that you wish to paint so that you can either hand draw or print off one from the computer and try to trace this onto some paper.
Step 2) Once you have a hand drawn word you can then go over this with your paints.
Step 3) Add a pretty border if you wish to have more detail to your artwork.
Step 4) Once dry you can then place this inside a photograph frame and display your artwork.

Below are the 3 different designs that we came up with as a family. We have these displayed around the house.
Designed by myself!

Designed by my 6 year old.

Designed by my 11 year old.

Helpful Hints: We used paints for this project but you could also do this using other art supplies such as coloured pens/crayons etc.  You could also display it as it is without having to use a photograph frame.

Don't Forget that if you have made any of the Ramadan Crafts that I have blogged about, then please send in a photograph and I will publish this on my blog and my Facebook Page! You can send this via email (karimascrafts@gmail.com) or post on my Facebook Page Karimas-Crafts directly.

Games Crafts - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 23 - Games Crafts with an Islamic Theme

Today's post is about incorporating Islam into games that children already play. I have included, Lego, Jenga, Play-doh, and Minecraft. The Lego game could involve having this as a centrepiece on your table! All 3 of my children have done something for this project!

The first photo shows a Mosque that was designed by my 6 year old daughter using her Lego Duplo bricks. I think she did a brilliant job considering she tried to make a rounded building from blocks! You could also try and get the children to make the shape of the Kaaba as at least this has no rounded sides!

The second photo shows a Mosque designed by my 11 year old daughter using Jenga Blocks. Again I think she did a really good job considering the Mosque is a rounded shape. As with the Lego you could try to have a go building the Kaaba too. You could ask the smaller children to just lay the Jenga blocks flat on the ground to make shapes of a Mosque and Kaaba.

The third photograph is a screen shot of a Kaaba that my teenage son designed using the Computer game 'Minecraft'. It is nice for him to be involved with my crafts for a change! There may be many other computer games or computer programmes where children can design something with an Islamic theme.

The fourth photograph shows a collage of a Mosque using only play-doh!. This was designed by my 6 year old daughter.

Mosque Sponge Painting - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 22 - Mosque Sponge Painting

Today's craft is a simple sponge painting picture created by my daughter. She decided to use black card and make a night scene but you could just as easily make this into a daytime scene using white card if you prefer. You could also try your hand designing other Islamic scenes using the sponge painting technique.

Requirements:
  • Coloured Card (2 different coloured A4 size)
  • Sponge
  • Paint/brushes
  • Cutting knife or scissors.

 Instructions:

Step 1) Draw out a silhouette of a mosque on a piece of card (I used Orange card). If you are not comfortable with drawing, then trace over a picture of a mosque or print one of on your printer to copy.
Step 2) Cut out the Mosque silhouette shape (orange card).
Step 3) Place the A4 Cut Card over the piece of A4 Card (we used black) you are going to do your painting on.
Step 4) Using a sponge (we used a cut up cleaning sponge!) dab on the paint to make your mosque painting.
Step 5) Using the spare card, cut out a moon shape and a star shape template. You may need to use a cutter if you have one, if not scissors should also work.
Step 6) Using the sponge, paint the moon and stars onto the picture.
Step 7) Using either your fingers or brush you can add extra designs onto the picture. My daughter chose to paint on some Palm trees at either side of the Mosque.
