I have been attending a college course on Photography and being able to do a range of photographic styles. I took these photos at Seaburn Beach Sunderland. It was such an experience learning how to use my camera in the night time and such a great opportunity to take some photos of the young lady who was using the fire for these photo opportunities.
If you follow my posts you will know I did a photography course during the summer. I then decided to start the higher level course photography which started in September this year. As part of my work I had to show evidence of trying out different F-Stops in my photos. I thought what better than to add a bit of 'Geek' to it. I used Doctor Who props that belonged to my young daughter for this piece of work.

The photo below is using F 4.5 as you can see the background is very blurry.

The photo below is using F Stop 9 the background is still blurry but not as much as the previous photo.
I am really enjoying the course and hope to learn more about the possibilities I have with my canon camera. I have also started attending a local photography club to hopefully learn even more.
I recently worked on a face painting job where they wanted a Lion King Theme. They wanted the children to have animal face paint designs. The children chose a variety of animal designs. I tested the designs on my daughter as unfortunately I couldn't take photos of all of the children with their designs.
My eldest daughter Sara has recently set up a Facebook Page showcasing her photography work. She has been doing photography for many years and had been studying Photography at College this past year learning a lot more. I thought I would give her a shout out on my page. I am so proud of her achievements, she is doing so well and really enjoying her art course at college. Here is her page: https://www.facebook.com/saraheraouaphotography/
I recently went on a photography course at college. I really enjoyed learning how to actually use my camera properly. I have had my canon camera for a couple of years but didn't know what all the buttons and options were on it. I am hoping to getmore use out of my camera now. I have attached some of the photos I took in the studio of a Lily flower and also a photograph I took of a purple flower in a local park.

I have made rice heat packs many times over the years, I always have a few kept in the freezer at home as they get used often by myself. I suffer from headaches and I find a soothing cold pack against my head really helps. They are also good heated in the microwave as a heat pack for stomach cramps.

The skull design ones are some I have recently made, I made these smaller in a square shape instead of rectangles. It doesn't really matter what the shape is as long as they do there job.

These are very simple to make, just 2 pieces of cotton cloth, place together pattern side touching each other, sew around all 4 sides, leaving a small gap on one side. Turn the fabric the right way around, then fill 3/5 full of rice and then secure the hole by sewing it closed. They are ready to be used, either by placing in the freezer or heating in the microwave. Here is a link to 'Tipnut' a really good tutorial: http://tipnut.com/make-your-own-microwave-heating-pad/

Below are some I made and posted about 6 years ago. http://www.karimascrafts.com/2011/02/hot-and-cold-packs.html?m=0

I recently made this Mosque Painting, using the techniques i used on a previous painting of Penshaw Monument, but instead of the monument on the hill, I painted a mosque instead. The first painting is below.

Ramadan is approaching near and in order to welcome it, some are preparing and wrapping rolls while others are perfecting their prayers, I sat down to do my research and allowed my creative juices to flow so that I could come up with fun crafts for the kids. Specially the ones who have recently started fasting or will be fasting this year of the next. i.e. Ages 6/7 and above.

No wonder Ramadan is the month of Ibadah and to work on our spiritual dimension, but as mothers our duty to our kids is also to teach them about Ramadan and engage them in fun activities to develop their interest in fasting.

And the best way a kid can learn/enjoy anything is by 'doing' something about it. Living in west I noticed that even months before the start of December, kids are inundated by all the activities and shows and events relating to Christmas, I feel there is a stark lack of the same when it comes to Ramadan.

We want our kids to be excited about Ramadan, we have to make it fun for them, we have to device fun ways to inculcate Islamic concepts in them, therefore I had to come up with something. And I did.

There are 5 fun Ramadan crafts older kids will love to do:

1) Calligraphy wall art

This is a very simple project, you trace/print the calligraphy picture and color it with sharpie. Kids of 5 years and above should be able to do it with parental help.

2) Masjid Sun catcher using Beads

This project is good for 7 years and above, because it is a little trickier and require parental supervision while using the oven. But again even younger kids can make their own random patterns (in a cupcake tray) and bake it to reveal awesome patterns of a sun catcher.

3) Masjid Puffy Paint

This had been such a fun craft and my toddlers loved helping me with it. With help of a parent kids
above 3 years can do this craft. Younger kids can still get to mix the batter which is the favorite part of my 2yo.

4) Masjid Puffy Paint using Shaving Cream

Again, both my toddler loved mixing and playing with the shaving cream and they get to paint it a bit

too. With parental supervision 3yo and above and do this craft as well.

5) Lantern Shrinky Dink

This craft is for older kids, with Parental supervision 5yo and above should be able to trace and color the pattern and might be able to cut it as well. and the Parent will get to help and bake.

I have been so obsessed with crafting that I undertook a 15 day craft challenge here. And I am hoping to add more crafts there as well.

Hopefully they will inspire you enough to gather your supplies and give it a shot.

A pirate hat I made from a simple straw hat.

My youngest daughter, aged 10 has been enjoying herself recently attending local Comic Cons and dressing up. So far she has been Princess Belle, Princess Merida and also Hermione from Harry Potter. This time she was wanting to dress as a pirate for a Mini Con Pirate and Fairies theme. We managed to put together a costume from different items of clothing purchased from local charity/thrift shops. The biggest challenge was finding a pirate hat. We managed to find a straw hat just a day before the event, so I had some quick work to do to get it pirate ready!

Items needed:

Straw hat or similar shaped hat as shown.

Ribbons, broken or unwanted jewellery.

Needle and thread.

Instructions:

Step 1: Fold the hat into a tricorn shaped hat. Place some stitches using similar coloured thread to the hat to attach the brim of the hat to to hat part.
Step 2: Decorate the hat, I hand stitched ribbon, folded all the way around the outside of the hat as shown. I then attached a different ribbon along the first folded one to hide the stitches and also add design to it.
Step 3: Hand stitch pieces of costume jewellery to the hat. I used a pair of unwanted earrings to the side and an old brooch I no longer use to the front.
Step 4: Optional - If you have any feathers you could attach those too!

Below are some photos of my daughter wearing her hat and also her full costume.
My 9 year old daughter has been attending a homeschooling ceramics course with her friends. Some of the mums were able to do a piece to, this is my attempt at ceramics. I quite like how it turned out. You never quite know how it will turn out when you paint it as the colours you paint on don't look like the colours they will turn out like.
I think my latest posts are showing my inner Geek haha! Here is another Batman Post, this time a painted birdhouse. I bought a plain wooden birdhouse and painted it in the colours yellow and black and then hand painted a bat symbol onto the roof. I think it turned out quite well. Will look perfect in a lovely garden. Once I had painted the birdhouse I then gave it a coat of varnish to protect it when outside.

Below is a photo of a plain birdhouse that I bought.
Another Geeky Crafty Post. I decided to try some Folding Book Art, I did try this once before but then never got around to it again. This time I tried using a pattern, one I made myself. It took me quite a lot of time as I am not very experienced in this, but I was really happy with the final outcome. I used a black book for this so didn't need to decorate the outside of the book, just the folding needed to be done.
Being a Dr Who Fan I decided to paint an acrylic painting of a popular local landmark (Penshaw Monument) with a Dr Who Tardis flying above. I wasn't sure how it would turn out but many commented on how they loved it.
I recently shared a painted Dr Who Tardis Candle, this time I am sharing a Star Wars Death Star Candle I hand painted with acrylic paints. I used the ball candles you can find in many stores, my daughter currently buys these and paints them with henna theme designs. She has one candle left over so I thought I would give it a go. I love how it turned out, even though it's not easy painting a round candle.
If you have been following me recently you will see that I have become quite a Dr Who Fan, and my 9 year old is an avid fan too! I decided that seeing as I have also started enjoying Paper Cutting I would put both of those likes together and design something jointly. So here is a Dr Who Paper cutting that I have recently done. I really love how it looks framed.
I have been busy painting recently. I decided on a new style using square canvasses. I decided to paint a local scene to where I live, this is Penshaw Monument. Whenever you travel out of thew City you see this in the skyline and when you return you know you are nearly home! I have climbed the hill to the top on numerous occasions and been on the monument. I will try and share some photos below of this lovely monument.
If you have seen my previous post, you will know that I am a Dr Who fan. My youngest is also a fan so I thought I would do some artwork to go in her room. So I have been busy painting recently. She is also a Star Wars fan so I might be sharing some more art work on my blog with a Star Wars theme too.

This is just a plain white canvas that I painted in a galaxy colour background, which I splattered with white paint using a toothbrush to give a white starry effect. Then I hand painted the Tardis on the top of the background. My daughter loves this painting.

I admit it, I am a Dr Who fan and so is my youngest daughter. My elder daughter is normally the one who decorates candles but I thought I would have a go myself at decorating a candle. So I chose the theme 'Dr Who' and hand painted a Tardis onto a plain pillar candle with a Galaxy theme background.

I am quite pleased with the outcome for a first attempt. I might have a go at some other designs now.
Here is another papercutting I have recently done using an EmbellishBox design. I have previously blogged about the new monthly EbellishBox package that I received in the post. This was one of the designs from the box. The original design was slightly bigger with more detail than this but I just cut out the part of the design I wanted.

I have been busy recently making some Upcycled Scarf Bags. I use second hand scarves that I buy from thrift stores/charity shops. I make these scarves into tote style bags and add a lining with a pocket using upycled fabric too. I am making these to sell on my craft stall or on my Etsy page.
I have posted a while bag showing the original tutorial on how the standard bag is made from a scarf.
I have been upcycling again recently. I still have quite a lot of felted fabric from old woolly jumpers. I have used some of the fabric for previous projects but still had some spare sleeves. So I thought I would make some candle cozies from them. These were the perfect size to fit the glass candle jars I had at home. No need for any tutorial to be honest as very simple. Once the jumpers have already been felted you simply just cut them to size, deciding if you wish to have a turn on the design. I actually used the same sleeve for different designs of fitting them to the candle if you look closely. One of the cozies I actually cut a felt flower out and hand stitched it to the sleeve for decoration.

I have been selling these on my craft table events.
You may recognise some of the pink felt sleeves from the jumper that was used for a project my now 9 year old daughter made a while ago, an owl felt cushion.
I have now officially done 2 craft table events. I might have a 3rd one booked up next week, still waiting for confirmation. I thought I would share some photos of my tables. I have had both my daughters helping me out and selling some of their items too. The first one I did was on a weekend for a local Islamic charitable event, I was so glad to be part of this. I was also offering my services as a face painter for that event too. My second event was at a local call centre during the week.

I have shared some photos showing my tables and some of the things that I have for sale. I have also set up an ETSY shop to sell some of my stock. Bear with me as this is so new to me so still learning.

I had for sale some different types of pincushions, some cozy candles, framed papercuttings and upcyled scarf bags. Also on the stall were my daughter's Sea Glass Necklaces and painted candles.
My last post was a review for a Paper Cutting Business. After my first attempt I really wanted to have another go but wanted something with an Islamic feel to it. I decided to make my own design of a Mosque. I designed a mosque template using the free version of Picmonkey online photo editor.

Once I had cut out my design I went out to see if I could find a nice frame to display it. I managed to find a cheap frame from 'The Range'. It was a box frame, I placed some plastic behind the cutting to keep it in place. I am pleased with how my first design turned out. I might try and make some more of these and sell them at my very first craft table I will be doing in 2 weeks time.
