Crafts by Young Children - Beads and Other Crafts

The Last 2 weeks I have shared crafts from my eldest 2 children, so today I am sharing crafts by my youngest child!

It says 5 on the photo but she has just turned 6 in the last few weeks! She loves doing crafts too but obviously the crafts need to be age specific, so she does different things than her elder siblings.

The necklaces that she made above were designed by her for her to give to her new penpals!

She is like her mum and enjoys craft related work and is always wanting to try and join in with everyone. Below are some other crafts that she has been doing recently:

Al Maun Fund

Al Maun Fund

Today I wanted to talk about a great non-profit organisation that I came across recently which do a great deal of work for people in need. Below is a piece from their website:

Al Maun fund was established to assist those in need by helping in some small way, by giving a portion of funds for rental help, utility turn-offs, supplying emergency food, clothing, baby needs, household goods, co-pays for doctors visits or prescriptions, eyeglasses and the like, and also locating additional resources if needed. Any small unexpected expenses, or necessary needs that comes up in our daily lives, but that a family may be unable to pay due to any number of reasons.

We also aim to provide reading material for the incarcerated (male & female) through our prison outreach program on a periodic basis, in addition to our other social service programs, referrals and resource database.

The staff and helpers of Al Maun Fund are located in various parts of the United States, and our intention is to do our best to aid anyone with their needs, not only through financial assistance, donated goods and resources, but by also giving encouragement to have sabr & to have total reliance on Allaah in their time of tests and trials. As only Allaah is the One All Capable of rectifying their affairs and sending His Bounty to them.
Services are provided to anyone in need. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, age, veteran status, or disability.

Below is short video about the organization:

I am not in any way connected to this Organisation, I just simply want to spread the word of what a great service they are doing. If anyone is able to help or donate to them, then please contact them directly.

DIY Arabic Poster

Arabic Posters are really useful when you are trying to teach your youngsters Arabic. I had my son design this poster as he is good using Powerpoint and it kept him out of mischief for a while! Last week 2 posts where about things that my daughter had made, so I thought this week I would feature my son's work!

I have this poster on their bedroom wall and it really helped them remember to practice their alphabet. I also had some printed for them to use individually when they first started. These really did help, now I just have to get them to learn words not just the alphabet!

I have since found similar posters with more detail to them for children to use when learning Arabic from a great family business: Creative.Motivations They also have plenty other Islamic related posters and charts and their prices are really reasonable! So if you really like the idea of these kind of posters but are unable to design them yourself it is well worth having a look at this ladies work.

Below is a photograph of some of her work!

Crafts by Children - Gifts from my Daughter

My now 11 year old daughter gave me this recently, I thought it was so kind of her and it wasn't any special day she just wanted to show me how much she loved me! I thought I would share it with you as it could be a nice idea for someone to copy.

It is a piece of cut card that when folded looks like a little purse! She attached some ribbon to make a handle and she decorated it with craft pieces from her collection.

She loves doing craft activities and comes up with some wonderful ideas which are so sweet!

Below is another photograph of a bouquet of flowers that she made me recently using Pipe Cleaners!

Baked Eggs Recipe

I actually made these recently for the first time! I wanted to make a big batch of fried eggs and toast and instead of using the frying pan over and over, I decided to try the oven method!

At first I wasn't sure if the children would like them as they turned out to be a harder texture than the soft fried eggs, but they loved them! I used a Silicone Muffin Mould for these. The children often ask for these now on a weekend!

  • Grease the muffin tray with a little butter.
  • Break each egg (6 eggs) into each muffin space.
  • Sprinkle with Salt and Pepper if required.
  • Place into the preheated oven of 180 Degrees.
  • Cook for 15 minutes or until you can see they are cooked.
  • Optional: Serve with Buttered Toast!

Crochet Bookmarks

My daughter learnt to crochet last year and has made a few lovely things. Bookmarks are her latest project that she has been making for her friends. Like her Mum she doesn't follow any patterns and just does what she feels is right. On the photo above she added a personalised letter bead on the end.

Below are some others that she recently made.

The photo below is an Ipod holder that she made without a pattern too!

Crochet is a lovely craft/hobby that children can learn very easily and can be quite relaxing for them too! Much better than sitting playing computer games or watching TV during the day! After just a few attempts at crochet and watching a couple of YouTube videos she is confident to try different unique things!

Spaghetti Hot Dogs Recipe

I saw this recipe online recently and thought I would give it a try. The kids loved it - I have done this a few times now and the kids love to help making it! Not much of a recipe needed for this but I made one just to show how easy it is to do!

Hot Dogs (I use Halal Ones!)

  • Cut the hot dogs into small pieces
  • Then thread the spaghetti through the hot dogs. (I actually snapped the spaghetti in half!)
  • You could put between 2 or 4 through!
  • Then place into a pan of boiling water and cook for 10 minutes or until the spaghetti and hot dogs are cooked.

Notes: Make sure that the hot dogs are cut into small pieces, as I tried it once with larger pieces and the spaghetti inside the hot dogs didn't cook properly!

Spray Painted Keyboard Tutorial - Great Ideas

I Spray Painted my Keyboard! I saw an amazing transformation of a keyboard by another blogger who hand painted each key and did an amazing job!

I didn't have the patience for hand painting, however I do like to indulge in spray painting! So I used a can of Gold coloured spray paint that I already had in the house from other projects and got to work.

  • Take a photograph of the keyboard so that you know what each key is.
  • Unscrew the top of the keyboard off carefully and place onto newspaper.
  • Give one coat of paint and allow to dry. Do another coat if needed.
  • Once dry using a permanent marker by hand write down on the keys the correct markings using the photograph.
  • Then screw the top back to the bottom of the keyboard case.
  • You now have a unique keyboard!

Here is the link and photograph of the keyboard that gave me the inspiration:

Here is another one she painted as a project:

Notes: Not sure if all keyboards can be took apart as easily - you need to make sure you know how to put it back together. I managed by myself but if I had struggled I would have asked my husband to help as he is a Computer Technician and taking them apart is his speciality!

Pineapple Upside Down Cake Recipe

I remember making this when I was at school in Cookery Class! I had a tin of pineapples in the house and thought about some kind of dessert for the kids and this cake came into my mind!

I looked for an easy recipe online that I could follow and found one here: I didn't follow the exact same recipe but near enough! Below is my method:

50g Margerine
50g Brown Sugar
Tin of Pineapple Rings ( 5 where in my tin!) keep the syrup for Cake.
Glace Cherries (optional)

For the Cake:

100g Margerine
100g Caster Sugar
100g Self Raising Flour
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon of vanilla flavouring
2 eggs
2 Tablespoons of Pineapple Syrup

Preheat Oven to 180C
To make the topping you need to beat together the margarine and sugar until creamy
Pour this mixture into a cake tin
Place Pineapples onto the mixture
If using Cherries place them inside the Pineapple Rings

Place all the cake ingredients into a bowl including 2 tablespoons of Pineapple syrup.
Beat the mixture - using electric whisk is easier.
Spoon the mixture into the cake tin on top of the pineapples - level out.
Cook for 35 mins
Remove and allow to cool down for 5 minutes.
Then turn out onto a plate and serve (with ice cream is nice!)

DIY - Personalized Picture Frame Gift

I made this picture frame as a gift for a friend of my daughter's. This is one of the most easiest gifts to make, yet looks great! This is a great personalized gift idea!

I bought a frame which had 5 spaces for photographs as the name I wanted 'EMILY' had 5 letters. I then measured the spaces and found some letter designs that I really liked and printed these off to fit into each space. I simply placed the printed letters into the frame and was finished! How quick and easy was that!

If you wanted to be more artistic and put in more effort you could use fabric letters or paint the letters yourself.  I hope this provides some inspiration for you.
