Batman Birdhouse

I think my latest posts are showing my inner Geek haha!  Here is another Batman Post, this time a painted birdhouse.  I bought a plain wooden birdhouse and painted it in the colours yellow and black and then hand painted a bat symbol onto the roof.   I think it turned out quite well. Will look perfect in a lovely garden.  Once I had painted the birdhouse I then gave it a coat of varnish to protect it when outside.

Spray Painted Keyboard Tutorial - Great Ideas

 

I Spray Painted my Keyboard! I saw an amazing transformation of a keyboard by another blogger who hand painted each key and did an amazing job!

I didn't have the patience for hand painting, however I do like to indulge in spray painting! So I used a can of Gold coloured spray paint that I already had in the house from other projects and got to work.

Instructions:

• Take a photograph of the keyboard so that you know what each key is.
• Unscrew the top of the keyboard off carefully and place onto newspaper.
• Give one coat of paint and allow to dry. Do another coat if needed.
• Once dry using a permanent marker by hand write down on the keys the correct markings using the photograph.
• Then screw the top back to the bottom of the keyboard case.
• You now have a unique keyboard!

Notes: Not sure if all keyboards can be took apart as easily - you need to make sure you know how to put it back together. I managed by myself but if I had struggled I would have asked my husband to help as he is a Computer Technician and taking them apart is his speciality!

Spray Painting Shoes Gold - Great Ideas

Give your old shoes that are either damaged or scuffed a makeover instead of throwing them out!

The photo above shows some shoes that belonged to my daughter, they were pink and shiny but became stained and the toes were scuffed so she didn't wear them. With a can of spray paint I transformed them into a new pair of shoes for her.

In case you are interested in how I did this, I will briefly explain for you. I placed the shoes on some newspaper outside and gave them 2 coats of spray paint. I painted the soles as they are open at the sides but I didn't bother spraying the inside of the back of the heel as these are covered! For other shoes you would simply stuff them with some newspaper so that the spray paint doesn't touch the inside soles.

The reason I used gold was she needed some gold shoes for something specific and I already had some gold spray paint in the house from a previous project!

Spray painting an alternative to buying new - Great Idea!

 

I recently changed the colour decor in my living room to a gold and black style.  I didn't want to spend too much money - so I used my cans of spray paint and got to work with some of the ornaments and the clock that I already had.

I changed the brass coloured candlesticks to black and the wooden and silver clock frame to black and gold. Remember the post about my large old vase I had spray painted red - well now it's black!

Below is a photograph of one of my black and gold cushion covers which I made to match the decor too.

Spray painting can be a great cheaper alternative than spending a lot of money on new accessories.

Dish Rack Organizer - Great Ideas

 

 

Great Ideas Post - Uses for Dish Racks

 

The photo above shows some uses for old dish racks. Keep your kitchen cupboards organized by storing all the pan lids together or those plastic storage container lids together. Keep stationery and books organized too! Below are some photos of the ideas shown above:

Great Ideas - Magnetic Board from a Baking Tray

I have seen many magnetic boards on the internet which have been made from baking trays - that I knew I had to make my very own to hang on my Kitchen Wall. This is a great upcycling project.

I already had some black spray paint left over from another project and I already had a spare baking tray so this 'Great Ideas' project didn't cost me any money - brilliant!

If you just need a magnetic board for hanging on the wall or for the children to learn their spelling with (with magnetic letters) then you could even use the baking tray as it is without spraying it!

I wanted it to look good on the kitchen wall so I decided to spray it a nice black colour - you could even decorate it with paper and fabrics which also work well apparently.

Upcycling Used Tins Tutorial

The photograph shows some coffee tins that I gave a makeover with some red spray paint!

Spray paint is great to transform something that was heading for the trash, into something quite stylish! The tins above were from my husband's coffee habit, I don't personally like coffee I am a typical British tea drinker. Now because of his coffee addiction I have some great storage tins!

Here is my mini tutorial on how easy this is. I think the photographs really speak for themselves.

Requirements

• Empty Tins
• Spray Paint
• Newspapers

Steps

• Place the tin on some newspaper, somewhere well ventialted - I chose outside.
• If it is windy(it was on the day I chose) place something heavy inside - I placed a yogurt carton filled with water! This carton was also helpful to stop the spray paint from spraying inside the tin too.
• Spray paint the whole tin
• You may need to add recoats after a couple of hours drying

Vase Makeover

Today's post I am sharing with you is an old vase that has been in the family for many years, I think it is even older than me! My grandmother gave it to me as she no longer had any need for it.  It is a good sturdy vase but the design was very dated!  So I decided to have a go with the spray paint.

The photo below is what the vase originally looked like.

I used a can of spray paint that I had in the house. I originally bought this to give my daughter's bike a makeover but decided against it once she had outgrown it!

I took the vase outside and placed it onto some old newspaper and sprayed away. It took about 3 coats and I had to leave a 4 hour gap between respraying. I managed to have it completed by the evening!

Below is a nice before and after photo collage. I now have this vase in my living room.  I managed to buy some really cheap imitation flowers to put in the vase which made it blend in nicely with the room.
