The photograph above shows you the simple steps to make your own felt pumpkin.
Requirements:
- Orange Felt
- Green Felt
- Brown Felt
- Stuffing
- Paper for patterns
- Needle and thread
The steps below show you how to do this:
Step 1: Cut out some templates for your pattern. I just drew a rough leaf shape, a shape for the pumpkin leaves and a shape for the stalk.
Step 2: Cut out 6 felt leaf shapes (orange) and 1 pumpkin leaves shape (green) and one stalk shape (brown).
Step 3: Start sewing the leaves together joining at the sides. Make sure you secure the bottom of the ball shape this will make. Make sure you have enough space at the top to turn the fabric inside out to hide the stitches and to allow space for the stuffing.
Step 4: Place stuffing inside and then secure the hole at the top with some stitching.
Step 5: Attach the brown stalk to the top centre of the pumpkin with some stitches.
Step 6: Place the green leaves piece over the stalk and secure this to the pumpkin with stitches too.
You now have your completed pumpkin. These can be used as play food for children and can also be used as lovely pin cushion gifts.
I actually used an old jumper that I felted for the orange and brown part of this pattern. The green felt was shop bought felt. So this was also a great upcycling project!
Salam akaykum Karima this looks like something I could do with my kids during our craft time. Thanks fir sharing with us.
ReplyDeletewaalaikum salam sister, this would be great for kids - my 10 year old daughter can make these by herself - they really are easy to make.
DeleteThis would look so beautiful on a nature table. Please consider adding to the Waldorf Wednesday link up!

Thanks for your comments - I made some of these for my daughters school for the harvest table - they now use them for play shops!
DeleteSalam Alaikum,
ReplyDeleteI saw your post earlier in the week but I was on my mobile and for some reason that piece of technology doesn't let me comment but seeing your comment over on my blog reminded me!
I like how you make everything look so simple mashaAllah, the closest I get to practicing my scissors skills is by cutting out rounds of baking paper to fit the bottom of my cake tins and even then I can't always get that right lol
JazakaAllah Khair for the tutorial and you never know I may just try this project someday with the kids inshaAllah
It really is easy - the kids would love to do this!
DeleteIt's very cute, I love pumpkins! I should make one for the kids to play with.
ReplyDeleteMy youngest plays shops with some of these felt vegetables - I tried to use it as a pin cushion but she wouldn't let me haha!
DeleteHey from tessacotton! Love your creations, they are so, so cute. I would be so thrilled if you would link up to my new, halloween themed linky party, live today!

DeleteKarima - what a cute idea! Love how you make your own patterns. I like the ideas in the comments too -- especially the pinchushion idea! Thanks so much for sharing on Busy Monday!
ReplyDeleteSo glad you like it! Yes I have made soft balls in the past using similar leaf pattern so I got the idea from there. Just made up a stalk and pumpkin leave rough pattern after that. Not hard really and quite unique!
DeleteAssalamu Alaykum Karima, very interesting tutorial. Thanks for sharing :-)
