Peg Doll Tutorial

My 7 year old daughter went to a holiday club this week and they were making peg dolls at one of the craft tables. This was her creation, I think she did a brilliant job. These are easy to do and her big sister made one not long ago at one of her clubs too.

  • Peg
  • Pipe Cleaners
  • Paper Cake cases
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pens

Step 1: Place one piece of pipe cleaner into the peg slot and then wrap around the body and make the arms.
Step 2: Make a slit in the centre of  a few paper cases and slide these onto the peg to make a layered skirt.
Step 3: Get some pipe cleaners and make into a hair design of your choice and glue this to the top of the peg.
Step 4: Wrap another piece of pipe cleaner to make a scarf.
Step 5: With the pens you can draw a face on the top of the peg.

Below is a photo of a peg doll that my 12 year old posted on her blog last year.

Baked Apple with Mincemeat Recipe

I purchased many jars of sweet mincemeat last month when they were reduced from £1 to only 5p a jar - that meant I got 20 jars for only £1 - now that is a bargain!

I had made many sweet mincemeat pies and wanted to do something different and a friend suggested baked apples stuffed with sweet mincemeat. (PS I purchased vegan product).

5 Apples (doesn't need to be baking apples)
200g of Mincemeat
30g Butter

Step 1: Remove the core from the apples and then slice the top of the apple off. Then remove extra apple from the middle to leave enough room to stuff it.
Step 2: Stuff the hole with the sweet mincemeat.
Step 3: Add a little bit of butter to the apple too then place the top part of the apple on top.
Step 4: Place into an ovenproof dish and add a few tablespoons of water to the dish.
Step 5: Place into an oven for about 45 minutes. 180, 360, 4
Step 6: Serve with a choice of either honey, custard or ice-cream.

Sea Glass Canvas Art Tutorial - Sea Turtle

sea glass canvas art tutorial sea turtle

If you follow my blog then you will know that my 12 year old daughter collects Sea Glass from the local beach to make her jewellery. She often has excess pieces and some small or wrong shape for what she needs.  So my 7 year old daughter decided she wanted to use the spare pieces to make a sea glass picture. She chose to make the shape of a Sea Turtle.

Sea Glass pieces of different colours (we chose green and clear shades)
PVA Glue / brush
Blue Paint / Paint brush
Blank Canvas

Step 1: Paint the canvas a sea colour (or choose a different design like sand). Allow to dry.
Step 2: Choose a sheet of paper the same size as the canvas and place the glass design on this to get a rough idea of your design for size.
Step 3: Glue each piece of sea glass and place onto the canvas. Allow to dry for a good few hours (we left overnight)
Step 4: Once dry add another coat of PVA glue to the whole canvas covering the paint and the glass. (This is to give it a bit of a shine and also help the glass stay attached to the canvas.) Allow to dry.
