Mosque Sponge Painting - 30 Days of Ramadan Crafts

Day 22 - Mosque Sponge Painting

 

Today's craft is a simple sponge painting picture created by my daughter. She decided to use black card and make a night scene but you could just as easily make this into a daytime scene using white card if you prefer. You could also try your hand designing other Islamic scenes using the sponge painting technique.

 

Requirements:

• Coloured Card (2 different coloured A4 size)
• Sponge
• Paint/brushes
• Cutting knife or scissors.

 

 Instructions:

 

Step 1) Draw out a silhouette of a mosque on a piece of card (I used Orange card). If you are not comfortable with drawing, then trace over a picture of a mosque or print one of on your printer to copy.

Step 2) Cut out the Mosque silhouette shape (orange card).

Step 3) Place the A4 Cut Card over the piece of A4 Card (we used black) you are going to do your painting on.

Step 4) Using a sponge (we used a cut up cleaning sponge!) dab on the paint to make your mosque painting.

Step 5) Using the spare card, cut out a moon shape and a star shape template. You may need to use a cutter if you have one, if not scissors should also work.

Step 6) Using the sponge, paint the moon and stars onto the picture.

Step 7) Using either your fingers or brush you can add extra designs onto the picture. My daughter chose to paint on some Palm trees at either side of the Mosque.
